Summer brings longer days, fresh air, and lots of sunshine. Great for us, but potentially dangerous for our furry friends. Without proper care, the heat can lead to serious health issues for dogs. Here’s how to keep your pup safe and happy all summer long:
Never Leave Your Dog in a Parked Car
Even on a mild day, the temperature inside a car can rise 10–20°F in just 10 minutes. Add a fur coat, and it quickly becomes too much to bear. Always take your dog with you or leave them safely at home.
Avoid Outdoor Time During Peak Heat
Avoid walking your dog during the middle of the day. Instead, plan walks and playtime for early morning or evening when it’s cooler. On especially hot days, keep them indoors with the A/C and plan activities to keep them mentally stimulated while staying inside.
Check the Pavement Before Walking
Perform this simple test to see if it’s a good idea for your dog to be outside: place your hand on the pavement for a few seconds. If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for your dog’s paws.
Follow these simple tips to keep your dog happy, healthy, and cool this summer.
